Diamine Inkvent 2022 – Day 5

Okay, at this point I don’t know what to expect.

Today’s door opening! *drumroll*……….

Day 5’s ink is called “Spiced Apple.”

Three days of S inks. Is that intentional?

I tested, as per usual, using a borosilicate glass dip pen in a Maruman Mnemosyne notebook. The paper in the Mnemosyne is good for sheening inks but isn’t as thin as Tomoe River, making it easier to use a sharp glass pen.

Somewhat blurry handwriting in a midrange red ink on white paper that reads "Day 5: Spiced Apple." To the right of the writing lays a small square bottle with a metallic ambery-red label that reads "Spiced Apple" in silver script under the diamond Diamine logo.
This ink was REALLY difficult, both to write with and to photograph. Sorry for the blur. Text reads “Day 5: Spiced Apple” in my blocky handwriting.

I do NOT know what was up with this ink. It’s not really an orange-based red, more an ambery red? Not all the way to brown-based. It is both thin AND dry, which made it tough to write with or splotch, and for some reason my cameras didn’t want to focus on it at all. (The other cameras were worse.)

The shimmer in it is really pretty, though, and the red is nicely readable once I got it out of the pen. It’s such a pity it’s so hard to use.

A closeup of the red handwriting, the last three letters of Spiced plus Apple, next to a brighter red but quite blurry splotch.
A closeup of the writing and ink splotch, this time with the splotch out of focus.

The ink doesn’t flow well. The outline of the above splotch demonstrates that I had to scribble a bit to complete it.

A splotch of bright ambery-red fountain pen ink with gold glitter on what looks like waffle-textured paper. To the left of the image is a handwritten letter E that also shows significant gold glitter.
Another closeup in different light. The paper looks like it’s waffle weave, but that’s literally just the shadow of the window screen.

In order to show off the color and shimmer, I had to take the paper into the brightest sunlight I could find. Please excuse the window screen pattern. The photo still blurred, but at least the shimmer shows up even in the blurred parts. It’s super-pretty in bright light.

I’m saving this one for painting. It’s going to rock on holiday cards for certain red-loving friends of mine.

Next up: Day 6!
