Diamine Inkvent 2022 – Day 8

At this point, I’m stoked with each door I open.

Today’s door opening! *drumroll*……….

….

Well THAT’S a choice.

Day 8’s ink is called “Jingle Berry.”

(goes off in fits of giggles) ((Yes, I’m a child.))

OKAY let’s ignore the name and get on with it.

I tested, as per usual, using a borosilicate glass dip pen in a Maruman Mnemosyne notebook. The paper in the Mnemosyne is good for sheening inks but isn’t as thin as Tomoe River, making it easier to use a sharp glass pen.

Handwriting in a midrange magenta ink on white paper that reads "Day 8: Jingle Berry." To the right of the writing is an ink splotch of the same color, and below the writing lays a small square bottle with a metallic berry-purple label that reads "Jingle Berry" in hard-to-read silver script under the diamond Diamine logo.
Nice rich magenta color. Text reads “Day 8: Jingle Berry” in my blocky handwriting.

It’s not easy to pull off a magenta/fuchsia color like this and make it look clean and readable. Kudos to the creative team for this one. The color is a bit like Ferris Wheel Press’ Midway the Magnificent, but cleaner, and without the thickness or the faint shimmer.

This ink has a nice flow when writing, but weirdly, it spotted a bit and it wasn’t easy to make the swatch even though it seemed like it should have worked.

A closeup of a splotch of ink has shades of fuchsia and dark berry. Dark pen strokes embedded in the paper are clearly visible.
A closeup of the writing and ink splotch, with the pen strokes cutting into the paper clearly visible.

So when making the splotch, I had to press to get it to work. Not really that fun. But the writing itself was nice and smooth.

I enjoy the color, but… I think I’d rather have FWP’s Midway.

Next up: Day 9!
