Habari Gani? Happy First Day of Kwanzaa

A very happy Kwanzaa to all who celebrate! The following words come from the newsletter of the extraordinary Ayodele Drum and Dance in Chicago:

“Habari Gani? The traditional “What’s Happening” Kwanzaa greeting signals the call to speak the principle of the day. The seven principles of Kwanzaa, or Nguzo Saba, are the philosophy and values of a balanced community. The Swahili words of power correspond to the days of Kwanzaa:

Dec 26: Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family and community.”

For those who don’t celebrate, learn more about it at the National Museum of African American History and Culture ‘s website.
